The Wye Valley Sport is a comprehensive guidebook describing all the sport climbing in the Lower Wye Valley. The guidebook covers 6 areas, which are:
Wyndcliff Quarry – winter sunshine and modern day convenience
Black Cliff Quarry – Revamped and new routes added where you will get shade
Woodcroft Quarry – Long ignored but its charms are growing
Wintour’s Leap – still a bastion of trad but has a smattering of hard sport climbs
Ban-y-gor – has developed into the Wye’s best sport climbing crag and ideal on a hot day
Tintern Quarry – it’s big, it’s bad, and for some it’s beautiful?
The guidebook describes over 400 sport routes, of which more than 250 of these are in the F2+ to F6b grade range. All the routes are shown on colour photo topos. At the start of each main area, there is a description of the aspect and character of the crag, and a table giving the number of routes for each grade.
Published in September 2021 (revised 3rd edition) this guidebook has been put together by Great Western Rock and published by Dick's Climbing, whose aim is to produce local guidebooks for local climbers.
