As the capital of a country that has been colonised the longest and among the earliest, Manila’s cityscape is the reflection of many different influences. This guide explores its architectural history through nearly 120 buildings described in detail: from the neoclassicism and art deco of the American occupation to the brutalist concrete under the auspices of the Marcos regime right through to the expressive ecclesiastical architecture that serves the Philippines’ large Catholic population.
