The relative Mountains of Earth: the Ribus, by Daniel Patrick Quinn, November 2024.

350 pages, including 158 colour photographs, 64 stories and several articles.

Summary:

A Ribu is a mountain with one thousand metres of topographic prominence. This book lists all of them. They are the 7.150 most prominent peaks on our planet. The Relative Mountains of Earth is a comprehensive catalogue of the world's most prominent mountains and a sprawling testament to natural grandeur. From the project's modest yet exotic beginnings in the lush landscapes of Java, Indonesia, in 2009, this book is the result of many years of scholarly endeavour and meticulous research of an eclectic array of data sources including topographic maps, GPS records, and digital elevation models from orbiting satellites.

The Relative Mountains of Earth includes mountain images from the archives of several climbers. These photographs document the whole spectrum of peaks, from famous and accessible mountain locations to obscure Ribus in clandestine locations that have rarely been visited by mountaineers.

Also included are articles offering insights on topographic prominence, the seamounts of the oceans and the mountains of the moon. The book features several Top 50 lists, fascinating and occasionally bizarre facts, plus vivid stories from several writers. Nobody has climbed all the Ribus and nobody ever will, but this book provides an invaluable reference and source of inspiration for potential adventurers around the world
